Service Branch: Department of the Navy Seaman Apprentice MSB-14, MINE SQDN 11 (DET A), TF 116, USNAVFORV Fergus Falls, Minnesota September 12, 1946 to January 14, 1967 JEROME A HAGEN is on the Wall at Panel 14E Line 027

Jerome was on a Mine Sweeping Boat, which cleared waterways of mines. The Long Tau river was the main channel. The 56 foot wooden hulled vessels were armed with machine guns and grenade launchers and carried surface radars and minesweeping gear for clearing explosives from the key waterways. At 6:20 am on Jan 14, 1967, Jerome's "Mine Sweeping Boat" was heading downriver towards Vung Tau. It was about to pass a Norwegian Merchant, the Mui Finn starboard to starboard when sudden the MSB turned sharply to the right, intent on a port to port passage. The Mui Finn rammed the MSG and it sank immediately, taking several to their deaths, including Jerome Alfred Hagen. The MSG was lifted on Jan 19th and no bodies were found inside, but three were found later.
